The Gifts of A King
The Christ Child desires to share the gifts He received from the Three Kings with each of us
Blessed Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord!
Today we celebrate the fulfillment of God’s promise that His salvation would be known to the whole world, that His Light would shine on all peoples. And we celebrate our King and Bridegroom being worshipped and acknowledged as the Christ by the Three Kings or Wiseman who represent the gentiles and foreign nations.
You must know that God is offering his salvation to all the world (Acts 28:28).
As we meditate on the scene of the Christ Child, Mary, and Joseph receiving the gifts of gold, myrrh, and frankincense from the Three Kings, we can place ourselves in this scene. We can open our hearts to receive these precious gifts along with Christ for He desires to share His riches with us.
The wise men opened their treasures and offered to the Lord gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, alleluia. (Antiphon)
My Bridegroom and my God, may I receive from You the gift of gold… my golden and priceless dignity and guard this treasure from all that would tarnish its radiance.
My Savior and Redeemer, may I receive the gift of myrrh, symbol of suffering and death, and be always reminded that to die to myself and the false glories of this world will lead me into the true glory of new life with You.
My King and my Lord, may I receive the gift of frankincense, symbol of divinity, and keep it close to my heart so I might never forget that Your Divine Presence remains with me always, transforming me from glory to glory until the day I see You face to face.
Amen.
